Monica Ruiz is the Peloton wife. But she hopes that is not the case for much longer.

What’s going on: Actress Monica Ruiz — who went viral after appearing in the controversial Peloton ad this holiday season — recently appeared on “The Today Show,” where she opened up about the commercial and her viral success.

Context: The Peloton ad showed Ruiz’s character filming video diaries of herself riding the Peloton after her husband gives her the bike for Christmas. The ad “was called sexist, tone-deaf and alarming,” according to CNN.

“Many people are unhappy with the commercial because they feel that it is sexist, as they view it as the husband telling his wife to lose weight,” the Deseret News reported.

Her side of things: Ruiz said that her eyebrows might be to blame for the controversy.

  • Ruiz: “Honestly, I think it was just my face. It was my fault. My eyebrows look, like, worried?”
  • Ruiz: “It didn’t really blow over as quickly as I thought it would.”

What she wants: Ruiz said she wants to get back to acting and avoid the viral sensation.

  • Ruiz: “I hope that people can just see me as an actress. That’s what I am. I hope people can remember that I’m not actually the Peloton lady and let me work other jobs.”
