“This Is Us” has cast Tim Matheson as a recurring character for season four, which is set to debut later this month.
Matheson will play Dave, the father of Mandy Moore’s character Rebecca Pearson. This will mark Rebecca’s dad’s first appearance on the show.
Matheson previously starred on “The West Wing,” “Hart of Dixie,” “Burn Notice” and “Bonanza.”
The third season finale showed Rebecca bed-ridden and close to death, suffering from some medical ailment.
“The fourth season, therefore, is set up to further explore Rebecca’s character through the years to show more of what informed her, including her relationship with her father, to ultimately explain what ailment she suffers from in her later years,” according to Variety.
We already know we’ll be getting a little more information about Becca and Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) early days. Moore told Entertainment Weekly that season four will include a big angle surrounding their relationship.
“There are going to be some family dynamics that enter the equation from my side, having to contend with my parents and their thoughts on him,” Moore told Entertainment Weekly.
Ventimiglia said the Pearsons will be a focus point of the new season.
“The audience connects to the Pearsons,” Ventimiglia said, according to CNN. ”I think in that, we as a creative group, it’s our duty to go deeper and give the audience more of an understanding. ... We’ve got to really let the trap door open and fall through.”
