Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum will have major roles in the “Jurassic World 3” sequel, signaling a return to the franchise they launched with “Jurassic Park.”

What happened: “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow said all three will return in sizeable roles in the new picture, according to Collider.

Last scenes: Neill and Dern have stayed away from the relaunched “Jurassic World” series.

  • Goldblum briefly appeared in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” portraying his character Ian Malcolm, who testified before the world about the dangers of dinosaurs.
  • Neill last appeared in “Jurassic Park III.” Dern made a brief cameo on that film. Otherwise, the two haven’t been seen in the “Jurassic World” universe.

Plot: “Jurassic World 3” has no plot details yet, according to The Verge. But “Fallen Kingdom” ended with dinosaurs being released into the world. One final shot of that film included a Tyrannosaurs rex roaring in front of a lion, signaling a change in the food chain for the world.

  • “Although Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) will be at the center of this seismic shift in human history, there is something very appealing about seeing how ordinary people, unequipped with the military and science expertise navigate their new circumstances,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “While the third film is said to step away from hybrid dinosaurs, which provided the central threat of the last two films, the previous two installments introduced human cloning, and militarized dinosaurs that have been sold off to different countries.”

Flashback: Earlier in September, Trevorrow released a short film called “Battle at Big Rock” that focused on a modern family battling dinosaurs, showing the reality of the new world, as reported by the Deseret News.
