Cineworld — the parent company of the Regal Cinemas movie theater chain in the United States — will close all its venues in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland this week, Variety reports.

  • The closures come after “No Time to Die” — the newest James Bond film — was pushed back to April 2021.
  • Variety reports that the chains will close within the next week.
  • It’s unclear when the theaters will reopen. According to Variety, the cinemas could be closed until 2021.

Movie theaters continue to deal with the pandemic, which has left people uneasy about attending theaters. Major studies have pushed back some of the biggest films of the year — including “Black Widow” and “Wonder Woman 1984” — to 2021.

Meanwhile, “Tenet” has actually hit theaters, but office numbers remain low.

The Motion Picture Association and other film industry groups asked Congress to provide financial assistances for movie theaters so that they can survive the pandemic, CNN reports.

  • ”If the status quo continues, 69% of small and mid-sized movie theater companies will be forced to file for bankruptcy or to close permanently, and 66% of theater jobs will be lost,” the MPA said in a letter.
