McDonald’s said Monday the company plans to improve its financial standing with a new weapon — chicken sandwiches.

What’s going on?

McDonald’s said it plans to release a new chicken sandwich in the United States beginning in early 2021, CNN reports.

  • The decision comes as Chick-fil-A and Popeyes have popularized the chicken sandwich in recent years.
  • “McDonald’s already serves a chicken sandwich, the McChicken, and often tests out new types of chicken sandwiches,” according to CNN.

Flashback:

  • Rumors of a chicken sandwich from McDonald’s began in early 2020.
  • McDonald’s said it was testing a crispy sandwich back in January for a sandwich “that just might blow your mind.”

One more thing ...

McDonald’s said it plans to launch new packaging with a “modern, refreshing feel.”

  • The company plans to improve digital delivery options, encouraging customers to use drive-thru and pickup orders more than visiting the inside of the restaurant.
