Warning: This review contains spoilers for season 2, episode 8 of ‘The Mandalorian.’

“The Mandalorian” ended its second season with a few epic moments, sure. But it also left fans with a number of questions ahead of the third season — including what the future holds for Cara Dune.

What’s going on?

“The Mandalorian” premiered its season 2 finale Friday morning. The episode featured the Mandalorian teaming up with Cara Dune (Gina Carano), Fennec (Ming-Na Wen), Boba Fett (Temura Morrison), Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks) to rescue Grogu.

  • The final moments of the episode showed one legendary “Star Wars” character taking Grogu away from the group to train him in the Force.
  • Fennec and Fett eventually leave and head back to Tatooine.
  • That leaves Dune, Kryze and the Mandalorian on the outside without a direct answer for what will happen to them next.

What could happen to Cara Dune

Dune could show up in the new “Rangers of the New Republic” series, which Disney announced last week. The show is “a new live-action series from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event” that takes place during the timeline of “The Mandalorian.”

Rumors have suggested that Dune could receive her own spinoff series with Bo-Katan, which we definitely saw hints of with this finale.

We know Dune is a marshal for the New Republic, too. She hinted at taking Moff Gideon into custody. So she could appear in the third season with an arc centered around bringing Gideon to justice.

What this means for Gina Carano

Carano suffered a lot of online criticism this season after she tweeted her political beliefs. She also mocked Democrats for wearing face masks and even mocked the COVID-19 vaccine. Fans started a hashtag #FireGinaCarano as well. There was some speculation that Carano would leave the show or Disney might move on from her character. But the recent finale shows Dune has a good chance of appearing in “Star Wars” moving forward.
