The Salt Lake Film Society announced on Thursday that they are launching an “online screening room” to stream films while theaters remain closed.

SLFS @home will present a virtual screening of a different film each week, starting with “Fantastic Fungi” on March 26.

Viewers can purchase tickets for different showtimes of “Fantastic Fungi” through April 2, as well as special screenings only available on March 26 that will feature a virtual Q&A with director Louie Schwartzberg and scientist Paul Stamets.

Broadway Centre Cinemas and Tower Theatre, the movie theaters operated by non-profit SLFS, have been closed since March 13 in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Also scheduled for SLFS @home are the horror film “Extra Ordinary,” which will be available to stream starting the week of April 3, and “Abe,” which premiered at Sundance in 2019 and is scheduled for the week of April 10.

Tickets for the virtual screening of “Fantastic Fungi” are available for purchase at the SLFS @home website, slfsathome.org.

SLFS is also requesting donations to continue to support their theaters during the closure. Donations can be made here or through their website, saltlakefilmsociety.org.
