Former Vice President Joe Biden received a little help from his friends Monday night when he gained endorsemeents from former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar — the moderate Democratic Party candidates who recently dropped out of the race — and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke.

And CNN analysts compared the news to the Avengers linking up to take on Thanos.

What’s going on:

  • CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota said the endorsements for Biden reminded her of Marvel’s superhero squad the Avengers teaming up in the recent run of films, “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” when the entire line of Avengers assemble to defeat Thanos, according to Mediaite.
  • CNN analyst Wajahat Ali agreed: “It was great moderate Avengers coming together, we’re talking about Avengers, it was all of them combining together to get the stones from Thanos. I thought Thanos was Trump, but apparently it’s Bernie Sanders.”
  • Ali said: “Right now this is a last-ditch effort to prop up Joe Biden, who let’s be honest, had a very flagging campaign so far, disappointing, but he came through last second in South Carolina, resurrected his campaign, got $10 million on the weekend, and he’s going to be competitive. I think Bernie is going to get the delegate edge.”
  • Democratic contributor Karen Finney jumped on the joke, too, wondering which Avengers character she gets to be.
