“Lost” star Evangeline Lilly has apologized for the comments she made about refusing to embrace social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.
What’s happening:
- Lilly posted a photo on her Instagram account where she showed her family playing a board game together.
- The caption read: “I am writing you from my home where I have been social distancing since March 18 — when social distancing was instituted in the small community where I am currently living.”
- “I want to offer my sincere and heartfelt apology for the insensitivity I showed in my previous post to the very real suffering and fear that has gripped the world through COVID-19. Grandparents, parents, children, sisters and brothers are dying, the world is rallying to find a way to stop this very real threat, and my ensuing silence has sent a dismissive, arrogant and cryptic message.”
- “Two days later, those directives changed and, despite my intense trepidation over the socioeconomic and political repercussions of this course of action, PLEASE KNOW I AM DOING MY PART TO FLATTEN THE CURVE, PRACTICING SOCIAL DISTANCING AND STAYING HOME WITH MY FAMILY.”
Why this matters
- Lilly previously posted a picture of tea on her Instagram account where she said she was going to follow normal day routines amid the pandemic.
- She wrote in the caption: “Just dropped my kids off at gymnastics camp. They all washed their hands before going in. They are playing and laughing. #businessasusual.”
- Her post was flooded with comments. She replied to one where she said life is about choices.
- She wrote: “I am also immune compromised at the moment. I have two young kids. Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices.”
A ‘Lost’ feud?
- Her “Lost” co-star Maggie Grace joined in on the comments, saying she hoped that Lilly would take things a little more seriously, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
- Grace wrote in the comments: “Hey there, I read your preedit post and I find it concerning. There’s no need to panic, but at the same time this is about all of us —the vulnerable, the immunocompromised, old folks.”
- Grace also wrote in the comments that Lilly should “trust the extensive science here and not overwhelm the health care system.”
- Grace said: “I say this with all humility, please rethink this. Your kids will be just fine without going to gymnastics, I promise.”
Meanwhile ...
- Daniel Dae Kim — who also starred on “Lost” — was diagnosed with COVID-19 last week, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- Kim recently said he is now “practically back to normal,” according to Fox News.
