Sony announced Monday that it has canceled its PlayStation 5 event due to the ongoing protests surrounding the death of George Floyd, racial injustice and police brutality.

What happened:

The official PlayStation Twitter account posted a message about canceling the PS5 event.

“While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration. And for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

The decision comes as the country has seen nationwide protests from one coast to another in response to the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck.

Other events canceled

Other events have been canceled because of the protests, too.
