Kristen Bell has a new children’s book that focuses on unity and bringing people together, a timely book with the ongoing nationwide protests, according to USA Today.
What’s the news:
- Bell and her close friend, Benjamin Hart, recently wrote a new children’s book called “The World Needs More Purple People.” It will be released Tuesday.
- The book tells the story of Penny Purple, who wants to know what a purple person is and how she can become such a person.
- Bell and Hart started writing the book two years ago. Releasing it now makes sense, Bell said, because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to USA Today.
- She said: “Right now we are all experiencing something together, which is this global pandemic. We have commonality.”
- Bell said: “We were just lamenting on the fact that adults spend a lot of time arguing. It occurred to us that our children are running around us, absorbing everything we talked about. And we were all talking about divisiveness.”
The book is for adults, too
Bell told Parade magazine that the book can help adults learn more about diversity, too.
Bell said: “Very basically, we just wanted to give kids five bullet points they could use to recognize similarities in others that they could trust, even if they have differing opinions. That’s why we wrote the book like this. As adults, we are so far out of practice. And it’s just a lot easier to comprehend and remind yourself of these things when they’re in a basic language like they are for children.”
