Many venues throughout Utah have shut down to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Though some venues are beginning to reopen, there are still many events that you can participate in from home. Here are some of the virtual events going on in the community this week.

COMMUNITY BRIEFS

The Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah ReStore, 835. S Bluff St., St. George, is holding a Fill the Truck Food Drive on June 6 from 9 a.m.-noon. They are requesting items that meet the following requirements: all-natural ingredients, low sodium, low sugar and no high fructose corn syrup. The most needed items are: peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, canned meats (tuna, chicken or beef), chili, SpaghettiOs or canned ravioli, canned fruits and other boxed meals. The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is looking for vocalists to join its ensemble. The Choir will post a link to a digital application and application guide on June 1, and applications must be submitted electronically by Aug. 15. Applicants must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in good standing, be between 25 and 55 years old as of April 30, 2021, and currently live within 100 miles of the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Salt Lake Acting Company has announced a call for submissions for short scripts for a comedic digital short series, “We Got the Laughs.” The series will be 10 parts released weekly on SLAC’s blog and social channels starting June 26. SLAC is inviting the public to submit scripts for comedic shorts that are 1-312 minutes in length that are intended to uplift, entertain and provide laughter. Authors of entries that are chosen to be produced by SLAC will receive a stipend of $500. The submission deadline is June 12 at 11:59 p.m. Questions and finalized script submissions can be sent to SLAC’s literary manager, Cassie Stokes-Wylie, at cassie@saltlakeactingcompany.org, and more information can be found at SLAC’s website at saltlakeactingcompany.org.

Craft Lake City is extending the application deadline for exhibitors and performers wanting to participate in the Craft Lake City DIY Festival. The festival will be moving to an online format but will still take place Aug. 7-9 as originally scheduled. The application deadline is now June 15. Utah-based artisans, craft foodies, vintage vendors, STEM exhibitors, DIY engineers, performers and entertainers, multicultural organizations and Kid Row artisans are encouraged to apply. Accepted exhibitors will be announced on July 1. Those interested can apply at the Craft Lake City website, craftlakecity.com.
