The FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention announced Friday this year’s event will be postponed until 2021 due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Utah.
“After discussions with community leaders, health officials and the surge of COVID-19 cases in Utah the past few weeks, we feel it’s in the best interest of our community to postpone,” organizers said in a statement.
The convention, which was scheduled to take place in September, will now take place Sept. 16-18, 2021.
Tickets for this year’s event will roll over for the 2021 convention. Ticket holders who can’t attend in 2021 can use the tickets for other future events or request a refund before Aug. 15, according to FanX.
In the meantime, FanX also announced that it will be hosting virtual events, including celebrity meet-and-greets and panels, on its social media channels.
FanX is not the first comic convention to cancel its in-person event due to the coronavirus pandemic. The San Diego Comic Con is being held virtually this year, with online panels and events taking place July 22-26.
