A new “Star Wars” rumor suggests Donald Glover will return as Lando Calrissian in a new Disney Plus series.
“Star Wars” news and rumors website Kessel Run Transmissions reported Wednesday that Glover will likely return as Calrissian in a new Disney Plus series. It’s unclear if he signed on for the role or if he’s still in negotiations.
Reports suggest this might be connected to a “Crimson Dawn Crime Syndicate” spinoff series, which would connect to the “Solo: A Star Wars Story” film.
Mikey Sutton first reported the potential series in November 2019. This is detailed in a video for 3 Buck Theater.
Similarly, Billy Dee Williams suggested Lando Calrissian’s appearance in “The Rise of Skywalker” might not be the end of the character’s run. There was some indication that an older Lando might return for a series about the young Lando’s life.
However, rumors about Glover returning as Lando began in May 2018. As I wrote for Deseret.com, rumors circulated that Disney and Lucasfilm hoped to release a spinoff film around Lando.
In fact, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed the hope for a Lando-based film during the Cannes Film Festival, according to a report from French publication Premiere.
“We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian. Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han (Solo) and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next,” she said, according to the report.
However, Lucasfilm walked back the quote at the time with its own statement about the potential future film, according to ScreenCrush.
“We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it’s not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie,” Lucasfilm said, according to ScreenCrush,
Of course, none of this is confirmed yet. But the Lando rumor follows a history of “Star Wars” rumors popping up now and again, which often say more about the community than anything else, as I wrote for Deseret.com.
