The United States has a shortage of Dr Pepper right now — and that comes straight from the doctor herself.

Dr Pepper tweeted recently that there’s a shortage of the drink nationwide due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Having trouble finding your favorite Dr. Pepper product? We’re doing everything we can to get it back into your hands. That means working with our distribution partners to keep shelves stocked nationwide, while ensuring the safety of our employees. We appreciate your patience, and encourage you to contact your local retailer directly for the most up-to-date availability of Dr Pepper products.”

Dr Pepper admitted that people should “hang tight” in their search for the beverage.

“We know it’s harder to find Dr Pepper these days. We’re working on it — hang tight!  Note: This applies to all flavors of Dr Pepper — including our newest permanent addition to the family, Dr Pepper & Cream Soda.”

Coca-Cola has faced a similar shortage during the pandemic. The company said it plans to discontinue some of its “zombie brands” that are hard to find, as I wrote about for Deseret.com.

  • “We are shifting to prioritizing fewer but bigger and stronger brands across various consumer needs,” Coke CEO James Quincey said. “At the same time, we need to do a better job nurturing and growing smaller, more enduing propositions and exiting some zombie brands.”
