“Star Wars” legend Mark Hamill recently thanked director Peyton Reed for bringing him back into the “Star Wars” universe.
Reed — director of “The Mandalorian” season 2 finale and the “Ant-Man” films — thanked Hamill in a recent tweet for his cameo in said finale.
- “Dear @HamillHimself, When I was a kid, this photo hung on my bedroom wall. STAR WARS, and Luke Skywalker in particular, meant a great deal to me. Some things never change. It was an honor and a dream come true to work with you on @themandalorian. Thank you. #MTFBWY.”
Hamill responded to the tweet, thanking the director for adding him into the finale.
- “Dear @MrPeytonReed, I am so grateful to have been given the unexpected opportunity to revisit my character when he was still a symbol of hope & optimism. Your assured direction & kindness was a crucial element in the experience & means more to me than I can say. #ThankYOU”

“The Mandalorian” season 2 finale featured the return of Luke Skywalker, who arrived with his popular green lightsaber to destroy the Dark Troopers. He took Grogu (Baby Yoda) with him to help the youngster presumably learn more about the Force.
- Hamill’s face was used with CGI technology for the epic moment, as I wrote about for the Deseret News. The “Star Wars” icon later tweeted about the appearance:
- “The fact that we were able to keep my involvement a secret for over a year with no leaks is nothing less than a miracle. A real triumph for spoiler-haters everywhere!”
