In new ‘Star Wars’ comic, Darth Vader is fighting a squid-like creature. Here’s why that matters

Darth Vader’s latest comic — “Darth Vader 9” — will bring him face-to-face with a squid

Darth Vader will face a new squid-like creature in an upcoming comic book story — and this actually has a lot to do with the “Star Wars” films.

What’s happening?

ScreenRant reports that Darth Vader will confront the Red Horror creature — a squid-like being that lives in space — in the “Darth Vader #9” comic.

  • Vader found the squid after he used the Sith Wayfinder device on his way to Exegol, the hidden world of the Sith. Vader hopes to arrive on that planet to learn more about Palpatine’s plans.
  • “As the deadliest predator, other creatures in ‘Star Wars’ renowned for their violent tendencies such as the 100-meter-long Krayt Dragon must therefore pale in comparison to the Red Horror,” according to ScreenRant.

Why it matters

The squid creature is blocking Vader from reaching Exegol, the famous planet seen in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” The planet was seen as a home to Sith secrets, acting as a home base for Emperor Palpatine to be resurrected.

Vader will need to travel through the Red Nebula — a collection of dust and gas, which was also seen in “Rise of Skywalker” — to get there as well.

This brief comic book storyline bridges yet another gap between the old “Star Wars” characters and the new, as well as the original films and the new ones, too. It brings extra context and layers to the story between Palpatine and Vader, as well as adds some history to the planet of Exegol that seemingly came out of nowhere in “Rise of Skywalker.”
