Artist Mark Raats has revealed a new piece of artwork he made for Disney and Lucasfilm that replaces Cara Dune with Ahsoka Tano.

What’s going on?

Raats said at the end of December 2020 that he had been asked by Disney and Lucasfilm to create new artwork for “The Mandalorian.”

  • The piece of art shows Grogu (Baby Yoda) and Mando (Pedro Pascal) at the front of the poster, with Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and The Magistrate (Diana Lee Inosanto) all together in the background.
  • Interestingly, the artwork does not include Cara Dune, who has been a staple of “The Mandalorian” since the beginning.

Fans react

Several fans commented on the artwork, pointing out that Cara Dune was not included. The commenters immediately linked her absence to the backlash against actress Gina Carano, who has faced criticism from “Star Wars” fans for her political beliefs.

“Star Wars” fans — or at least some of them on social media — once again called for the firing of “Mandalorian” star Carano this last week, as I wrote about for the Deseret News. It happened after the official “Star Wars” Twitter account tweeted a post about those lost to COVID-19. Carano has been criticized by fans for sharing her political beliefs on Twitter, which has included her mocking face masks and vaccines.
