“Harry Potter” fans may soon return to the wizarding world through a new HBO Max series.

What’s going on?

Variety reports that a “Harry Potter” series is in early development on HBO Max.

  • No writers or actors have been attached to the project.
  • There’s no word about when in the “Harry Potter” timeline the show will take place.
  • The series seems in such early development that there are questions about whether or not the series will be released at all, according to Variety.

In fact, The Hollywood Reporter explains that the “broad ideas have been discussed as part of the early-stage exploratory meetings.”

“Harry Potter” is a product of Warner Bros., which releases its content on HBO Max. Both Warner Bros and HBO Max denied a series is being developed.

  • “There are no ‘Harry Potter’ series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” HBO Max and Warner Bros., said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

A look at the numbers

It’s no surprise “Harry Potter” would be added to the streaming service conversation since it’s another intellectual property that people enjoy — similar to “Star Wars” or Marvel, which are both receiving their own series on Disney+.

The “Harry Potter” book series has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide. The film franchise has amassed more than $8 billion, too, according to Variety.
