“The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal has a new role on the way — he will play the character Joel in the TV adaptation of the video game “The Last of Us,” per Deadline.
- “The Last of Us” creative director Neil Druckmann confirmed the news on social media.
Per The Verge, Pascal will join Bella Ramsey — who played Lyanna Mormont in “Game of Thrones” — on the show. Ramsay’s character will be Ellie, who is Joel’s surrogate daughter in the video game.
- Interestingly, Pascal appeared on “Game of Thrones” as Oberyn Martell.
The timing matters
The announcement of Pascal’s new role came just as Lucasfilm announced it had severed ties with his “Mandalorian” co-star Gina Carano, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” Lucasfilm said in a statement, per i09.
Lucasfilm’s decision came hours after the hashtag #FireGinaCarano trended nationally due to Carano’s recent social media posts, which I wrote about for the Deseret News. On Wednesday, she shared an Instagram photo post on her Instagram story that commented on Jewish people being attacked in the streets during the Nazi Germany era. The post compared those attacks to how people are treated today because of their political beliefs.
One more thing ...
I’d expect this show to be rated TV-MA because of its connection to HBO. So be mindful of that when considering whether or not to watch it.
