Disney CEO Bob Chapek said Thursday that there have been 100,000 vaccine doses distributed at Disneyland since the theme park became a mass vaccination site, Business Insider reports.
What happened
Disneyland became a mass vaccination site in California at the end of January, allowing people across Orange County to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
Chapek said Thursday that at least 100,000 people received the vaccine at the location so far.
- On the night before the site opened, 10,000 people signed up to receive the vaccine, including essential workers and people over 70 years old, according to CBS Los Angeles.
- Orange County said it plans to complete all of its vaccinations by July 4, 2021, Business Insider reports.
Why it closed briefly
Back in January, Disneyland’s vaccinate site closed because of high wind warnings from the National Weather Service for Orange County.
- The weather delay stopped the distribution of vaccines in Southern California, which was another blow to a state that became something of an epicenter during the winter months of the pandemic. However, the state has seen a decline recently in COVID-19 cases like much of the nation.
Total numbers
Per Bloomberg, there have been 48 million doses administered throughout the U.S. with 1.62 million doses per day.
