Walt Disney Company released the first trailer for the upcoming film “Cruella,” which stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson.
What’s going on?
Disney released the first trailer for the Cruella de Vil spinoff film “Cruella.”
- The film will focus on the early days of Cruella, who goes by Estella at this point of her life. She looks to build a life for herself on the streets of London. Estella even meets a pair of thieves who help her achieve success.
- Later, she teams up with Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson), which sets them on “a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella,” Disney said in a news release.
There are some serious “Joker” and “Birds of Prey” vibes in this trailer. Of course, it’s a Disney film so “Cruella” couldn’t be as dark as those films. But the teaser does the job of transforming Cruella de Vil into a cooky, sophisticated and unhinged villain.
New poster
Disney released the first official poster for “Cruella” on Tuesday.
Release date
The trailer ends with a release date for May 28.
- It did not indicate whether the film will receive a Disney+ release or a movie theater exclusive release.
Utah’s favorite villain
Cruella de Vil is actually one of Utah’s favorite villains, as I wrote about for the Deseret News. A report from ViasatSavings.com — using Google Trends data — found that Utah searched for Cruella more than any other Disney villain.
