Post Malone has released a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit song “Only Wanna Be With You” in honor of Pokémon. Yes, it happened.

  • Malone’s cover comes ahead of Pokémon Day, which will honor the video game franchise.
  • The Utah-based artist will perform at a virtual concert on Saturday, Feb. 27, according to Rolling Stone.

As Deseret News reported, Pokémon announced Malone was the headliner for the virtual concert. The announcement came after the Pokémon Company said it will release promotional items with Build-A-Bear Workshop, General Mills, Levi’s, Jazwares, Scholastic, Mattel, Funko, PowerA, the Wand Company and McDonald’s.

  • According to Polygon, McDonald’s Pokémon promotion launched Feb. 9 at select locations. The company is handing out special 25th-anniversary trading cards with Happy Meals.

This isn’t Malone’s only dabble in ’90s music, either. In April 2020, Malone hosted a virtual concert where he performed songs from the band Nirvana, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
