Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently said Marvel fans should expect to see shadowy organizations in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects — but he didn’t offer any specifics about where and when we might see them.
What’s going on?
Feige spoke at a virtual global press conference for the new Marvel show on Sunday. He was asked whether or not the upcoming Disney+ show “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” will have connections to the past when it comes major organizations like SWORD and SHIELD.
- SWORD — Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division — was prominently featured in “WandaVision,” with Monica Rambeau being a member of the crew.
- SHIELD — Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division — made its debut in “Iron Man” and had been a leading organization through much of the MCU.
Feige said over the weekend that SWORD, SHIELD and other agencies or organizations will continue to pop up since the show takes the lead from comics.
- “You can always look at the comics,” Feige said. “There are new organizations like SWORD that you saw in ‘WandaVision.’ There is always an inherent need for some organizations in the MCU.”
Looking at the past
At the same press conference, Feige admitted that past Marvel projects will always be used to influence the modern-day stuff. So it’s important to keep an eye on the older works, too.
- “The past is prologue, the clues are everywhere,” he said. “Sometimes it’s just a name but we do pull from the lineage from the comics and tweak it.”
