Warning: This article contains spoilers for first episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” has three Avengers total in its first episode due to a surprise cameo from one of the major Marvel characters.
What happened?
The first episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” premiered Friday morning, giving us our first look into a world after “Avengers: Endgame” without Captain America.
- The show primarily focuses on Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie), who both aim to fill the void left by Captain America.
The series opens with Sam Wilson donating the Captain America shield to a museum. And it’s there that we see another Avenger — Don Cheadle’s Rhodey Rhodes (who also goes by War Machine).
Rhodes and Wilson proceed to have a short chat where Rhodes hints to Wilson that Wilson should take on the mantle as Captain America and use the shield. Wilson declines the invitation.
Flashback
Cheadle told the Post-Credit Podcast he would appear on the show. But he didn’t mention which episode he would pop up in.
- “That’s some of the fun of the MCU, that we all get to show up in each other’s stories, and there are ways that we’re cross-platforming these characters, and they become storylines, sometimes, in the movies. And then these storylines in the movies become storylines in the shows,” he said, according to ComicBook.com.
