Former U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp had some choice words for former “The Mandalorian” star Gina Carano, calling her a “Nazi” during a recent appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
What did Heidi Heitkamp say about Gina Carano?
Heitkamp — who served in South Dakota from 2013 to 2019 — appeared on “Real Time with Bill Maher” earlier this month. She was asked about Gina Carano, who was fired from “The Mandalorian” for her social media posts, according to Newsweek.
- “She was a Nazi.”
- “She does hang with white supremacists.”
- “I suppose I’m now subject to defamation now ... but we have to be really careful. There’s two things the Republicans think they’re going to get Biden on: cancel culture and this whole Dr. Seuss stuff that’s going on, where they’re reading ‘Green Eggs and Ham’, proving that some of these senators can actually read, and immigration.”
Gina Carano responds to Heitkamp
Gina Carano responded to the former U.S. senator’s comments with a tweet of her own.
- “Here we have more of the dehumanizing phase of cancel culture,” the former MMA athlete tweeted. “Repeat lies over and over until the population takes them as ‘truth’. False, disturbing & disgusting language coming from a former US Senator. @HeidiHeitkamp.”
- “You knew as soon as you said it you were liable.”
Heitkamp calls out cancel culture
Still, Heitkamp said cancel culture is a problem for the country that needs to be monitored since it changes every week, according to Newsweek.
- “I don’t want to talk about cancel culture and this nonsense every week, but I just don’t think people understand how much this is a tsunami, and how fast the goalposts change, almost on a weekly basis.”
Why was Gina Carano fired?
Lucasfilm decided to cut ties with Gina Carano back in February after she shared an Instagram photo post on her Instagram story that suggested Jewish people being attacked in the streets during the Nazi Germany era was similar to how people today are criticized for their political beliefs.
- “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Carano already has a new gig lined up with The Daily Wire for a new movie, which she will develop, produce and star in, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
