Warning: This article includes minor spoilers for the sixth episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” ended with a hint at what might be the title for a second season.
What happened in the series finale?
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” ended with a huge moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) assumed the role of Captain America, wearing a new suit and using the same old Captain America shield.
After the episode faded to black, a title card came up. Normally, the card reads “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” But this time, it read: “Captain America and the Winter Soldier.”
- The brief title teaser suggests a second season of the show would have a new title, which means it technically wouldn’t be a second season but a new show altogether.
Will there be a Season 2?
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously hinted at some Marvel projects would get a second season and some wouldn’t — it all depends on the project, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
- “WandaVision” seems like it’s pretty cut and dry completed. But “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” seems open to a second season based on the revelations of John Walker becoming U.S. Agent and Sharon Carter being the Power Broker. Both of those storylines were never resolved.
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” head writer Malcolm Spellman told Entertainment Weekly that the series was setting up future projects he couldn’t talk about.
- “The audience will know exactly what doors just got opened to an expanded universe,” Spellman told Entertainment Weekly.
