Britney Spears has announced that she is now a member of the Catholic Church.

Spears posted a video on Instagram Thursday where she explained that she has converted to Catholicism. The post included a short video where Spears walks around, as well as a photo that shows her in a blue dress, which she allegedly wore to church.

“I just got back from mass … I’m Catholic now … let us pray 🙏🏼 !!!” she said.

Spears was raised as a Southern Baptist in Louisiana, per HuffPost. She got her start as a singer in the church choir.

Years later, Spears studied the Kabbalah. She later disavowed the Kabbalah after she gave birth to her child in 2006, according to Newsweek.

  • Several celebrities had a fascination with the Kabbalah in the early 2000s, including Madonna, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Paris Hilton, among others, per ABC News.

Spears admitted earlier in 2020 that she sometimes flips her opinion on religion and God, too, in an Instagram post that was later deleted in 2020, Newsweek reports.

According to the Pew Research Center, the Catholic Church saw a 2% increase in people entering the church from outside of it as of 2014. That said, the church lost 12.9% of its members who were born in the church. Protestants have seen a 9.4% increase in people from other churches joining the faith, and a 13% decrease in members who grew Protestant leaving the faith.

Britney Spears and the conservatorship battle

Spears, meanwhile, is currently in the middle of a conservatorship battle with her father, Jamie Spears. Her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, recently filed a petition to remove Jamie Spears from the conservatorship, “Good Morning America” reported.
