Taylor Swift is wrapping up another monumental year. Here are some of the highlights:

  • The Eras Tour: She finished her massive 149-city Eras Tour, with multiple dates in Asia, Europe and Canada.
  • The Grammys: Swift took home two Grammy awards in February, becoming the first artist in history to win Album Of The Year four times. She also announced her 11th studio album “The Tortured Poets Department” during one of her award acceptance speeches.
  • “The Tortured Poets Department”: She released her prolific 31-song surprise double-album on Apr. 19. It was the most streamed album of the year on Spotify and Apple Music and continues to dominate music charts

What’s next for Taylor Swift?

So what will Swift do next? It’s not clear yet, and she hasn’t made any public announcements about her next move.

Here are some potential possibilities of what we could expect.

Rereleasing music

Swift has been rereleasing her original albums as (Taylor’s Version) in order to claim ownership of the songs and proceeding streaming royalties. Instead of just rerecording and releasing them all at once, Swift has made an event of it for her fans, releasing never-before-heard From The Vault tracks and even producing new music videos for some of the songs. She’s released four of the six original albums she doesn’t have the rights to, so rereleasing her debut album “Taylor Swift” and her fifth studio album “reputation” is highly likely.

New music?

Swifties are constantly theorizing that Swift is dropping hints about new music. And Swift often delivers. There’s nothing concrete as of yet on the interwebs promising of what it could look like, but Swift could potentially test out new genres of music, as she’s been prone to do.

A movie

Searchlight Pictures greenlit a deal with Swift announced one day after Swift’s short film directorial debut releasing “All Too Well.” According to USA Today, “the production studio announced Swift had written an original script and was poised to direct it.”

“I think that I’m at a place now where the next baby step is not a baby step. It would be committing to making a film,” she said during a panel at the Toronto Film Festival.

What type of movie could fans expect from Swift?

“I think I will always want to tell human stories about human emotion,” Swift said. “I never say never, but I can’t imagine myself filming an action sequence. If it happens one day, honestly, that’ll be funny character growth, but at this point, I could see it going in a more comedic, irreverent place. I don’t always see myself telling stories about extreme, guttural heartbreak at your most formative age that debilitates you emotionally for years and then you have to develop the scar tissue in order to move on with your life, and limp your way to your typewriter and write a novel about it. I think I’ve done that.”

A documentary?

Fans have speculated about a potential Eras Tour documentary or docuseries since Swift was followed by cameras throughout the tour.

“These kinds of pop music documentaries cement the narrative of the cultural significance of the celebrity and provide an opportunity to offer fans a feeling of access while still safely controlling and intervening into the celebrity public image,” Hannah Yelin, reader of media and culture at the U.K.’s Oxford Brookes University and author of “Celebrity Memoir: From Ghostwriting to Gender Politics”, told Newsweek.

She added a brand new set for “The Tortured Poets Department” into the already lengthy and challenging Eras Tour setlist — a set complete with new costuming, props and even a massive spinning bed that she stands on during one song.

In 2023, she released “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” as a feature film, which is now streaming on Disney+, but it doesn’t include that set. So maybe she also drops another version of the tour movie as well?

A musical?

“Female Rage: The Musical” was a trademark Swift filed to register, leading fans to wonder if some type of musical could be up the popstar’s sleeve. Swift has been a vocal fan of the musical world, including starring and writing for the feature film version of “Cats.”

“While the paperwork says what the singer intends to use the trademark for, such as live entertainment and merchandise, it doesn’t give specifics on her vision,” Bryan West, the Taylor Swift reporter for USA Today, reported.

A fan convention?

Swift filed for a trademark for “TaylorCon” earlier this year, leading fans to speculate wildly about what it could mean for the fandom. With the popularity and high demand for The Eras Tour, some type of fan convention could potentially draw large crowds.

Taking a break

With the busyness of the last year, it’s highly possible Swift might just be looking to kick back and rest for a while. She has written songs glorifying the idea of disappearing from the public eye, including “The Lucky One” and “The Lakes.”

She continues to attend boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games and has been seen in public with him and other friends. Maybe her next year will include baking homemade poptarts for the team and being a spectator for a bit.
