Buoyed by its dominance in the sprints and then the 800 and 1,600 meter distance events, Corner Canyon’s boys track team rolled to the win at the Davis Super Meet at Davis High School on Wednesday.
Corner Canyon racked up 146 points to easily distance itself from second-place Syracuse, which finished with 118 points.
Corner Canyon’s Cody Hagen won the 100 and 200 meters, while Jake Orr won the 800 meters and Jackson Henstrom the 1,600 meters.
Perhaps more impressive was Corner Canyon’s depth in each of those events despite a field of strong 6A programs. Corner Canyon placed three in the top four in the 100 meters, the top three in the 200 , the top five in the 800 and two of the top three in the 1,600.

Perhaps the best performance of the day was turned in by Corner Canyon’s 4x100 relay team, which threatened the 2015 overall state record before coming up just short. The team of Hagen, Noah Kjar, Cody Strong and Harrison Taggart posted a time of 41.62.
The state record is 41.46 set by Orem in 2015. It seems an inevitability that this year’s Corner Canyon team will break that record as they progress further into the seaason.
Layton’s Tyler Poole was another multi-event winner as he won both the shot put and discus on Wednesday’s meet.
The UHSAA announced this week and this year’s state track meets in May for all classifications will be held at Davis High School instead of traditional site BYU because of COVID-19.
