The Dec. 6 editorial regarding impeachment proceedings against President Trump carried the message that the process “could actually bind the nation.” This is shallow reasoning given the hatred and absence of adherence to accepted principles of law and procedures which certain parties and people, including Chairmen Nadler and Schiff, have displayed against the president in recent hearings of the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees.

The editorial states that “it is clear that the president’s approach to Ukraine was wrong.” This claim is not fully supported by the facts of investigations and testimony. And, given the actions of previous U.S. administrations in Ukraine, and now the hearings in progress regarding the FISA report on the FBI’s behavior toward then Mr. Trump, it is perfectly clear that the Constitution is at risk by actions within multiple government agencies and legislative bodies.

President Trump is not the most pleasant person in the world, but he is perfectly correct to call out those who are singularly politically motivated to bring him down through impeachment.

Binding the nation will not happen if the president is impeached. That is the opinion of one who has followed actions of presidents of the United States since 1948 when my father “introduced” me to Harry Truman via the newspaper and radio broadcasts.
