Christmas time, what a wonderful time of the year. We all are hoping that somewhere during the holiday that we will receive a gift that we will love and cherish for years to come. Often times the most special gifts comes as a surprise, completely unexpected but likewise unexpectedly fantastic to receive.
Then we have the gifts that we hear about and expect to show up for us. Our politicians do this all the time. They eagerly work to get us a gift that they think we want and they make a lot of hay about it.
Look at this year: The Democrats are rushed to deliver impeachment against President Donald Trump. They suggest that they have been working hard for over two-and-a-half years to get it to us, but it was an event that only occurred this year that triggered it. Whatever.
Then we have the Republicans in our fair state rushing to revamp our tax code. So enthusiastic about getting it to us for Christmas, they held a special legislative session to get it approved, (only about a month before the regular session starts). We may not know what exactly the effect we will each personally experience, but we all know that it will mean collectively — that Utah will reach deeper into our pockets to fund itself. Wishing us and ours a very merry taxation.
