The reasons Rep. Ben McAdams gave for voting to impeach President Trump leads us to question his understanding of the Constitution he claims to support and defend.
A first-year high school student is taught that there are three equal and coordinate branches of government. The president does not work for Congress and has great discretion as to what he provides to Congress. In the impeachment case, the president and other executive branch members have asked the third equal branch to rule on this important matter. This is not, nor will it ever be, obstruction, and Rep. McAdams should know that. The Democrats could have waited for the Supreme Court to rule, but the point here is political and not sanctimonious statements about the Constitution.
McAdams’ point of the president asking for favors is contrary to the facts and he knows it. The only direct testimony the House received was from Mr. Sondland.
This impeachment is about power, not the Constitution, which is why Rep. McAdams voted for it — it helps him get reelected, or so he believes.
