Ever since the six children and three of their mothers were murdered in Northern Mexico, people have been trying to find the responsible parties and asking what should be done about them. Now our senators, Romney and Lee, together with a few others are calling for sanctions to punish the perpetrators of that horrible crime.
However, nobody seems to look at the reverse side which implicates thousands of our fellow citizens and our own government. They don’t seem to see that this is a situation caused by “supply and demand.” The demand for drugs in our society is so great and the profits so high that the lives of a few innocent children and their mothers don’t count.
Take the example of automobiles. If, starting today, nobody bought Toyotas any more, pretty soon Toyota dealerships and factories would close. It’s no different with narcotics. In order to get a handle on this problem, we must find ways on our side of the border to diminish the “demand” and keep up the pressure on the south side of the border to diminish the “supply.”
