Mr. Stewart’s attempt at upbeat, feel-good editorializing falls flat. He is one of the six men from Utah in Congress who could actually directly change the partisan bickering so characteristic of political business as usual in the not so United States. Instead of wishfully thinking about better times to come, I’d ask Mr. Stewart, who is my representative in the U.S. House, to take any of the most contentious issues currently before Congress (immigration, gun violence, health care, climate) and work across the political spectrum to announce a bipartisan way forward before the State of the Union speech early next year.
