Letter: Ancestry isn’t a qualification

Letter to the editor Deseret News

Apparently some people think that it is a big deal that there was a story of Cherokee ancestry in Elizabeth Warren’s family.

A similar thing occurred in my family. On my Hinckley line, the story circulated that we were descendants of Quadequina, the brother (or sometimes sister) of Chief Massasoit who helped the pilgrims upon their arrival in America.

This has subsequently been disproven, but the fact that the story existed in my family for generations has nothing to do with my qualification, or lack thereof, for any political or professional office that I may seek.
