I am filled with gratitude during this Thanksgiving season. As we struggle in so many ways over this current pandemic and ever rising numbers, it might be well to appreciate the fact that the death rate is still statistically zero. (It would need to be 20x greater to even register 1/2 of 1% to move the needle toward 1%). In contrast, less than half of the pilgrims who came here seeking religious freedom survived the first winter — and yet they thought to thank God and establish the foundation for this holiday that we hope to celebrate this month.
Maybe in a quiet place with head uncovered we can still think to thank God that we are beneficiaries of his goodness and protection.
