I would like to respond to a letter published in the Readers Forum (“Letter: Republicans look a lot like the tyrants of ancient Athens,” Sept. 18), where the author, Kimball Shinkoskey, states that at the Republican National Convention some negative things were said about Democrats.

His first claim was that “Democrats will take your gun.” It was Beto O’Rourke who, when running to be elected as the Democratic president, said he would confiscate every AR-15 in the United States — by force, if necessary. I believe Joe Biden has said that Beto would have a position in his cabinet.

Mr. Shinkoskey’s next claim is that Democrats “would take your God.” When God was mentioned at the Democratic Convention of 2012, the audience booed.

His last claim was that Republicans said, “You would have no safety, no justice and no peace.” All you have to do is take a look at what is happening across America in states led by Democratic governors and mayors, where Antifa and others in the name of Black Lives Matter are burning our cities, rioting, looting and beating and murdering innocent people — and threatening all this to continue should Trump be reelected president in 2020.

I believe the Republican Convention touted our God-given freedoms granted to all Americans under the United States Constitution.
