In the 1800s, Addison, Alexis, Ashley, Aubrey, Avery, Brook, Darcy, Emerson, Hadley, Harper and Kelsey were all considered male names. As those names have changed and become female names, few continue to use them to name their sons.

In the 1800s, Dixie was a nickname for the southern U.S. Southern Utah adopted that name, which was appropriate for the time. Unfortunately, now the name “Dixie” has indisputable negative and offensive connotations. The original South has distanced itself from the use. It is time for Utah to do the same.
