As odd as it sounds, the Utah Capitol is in Ephraim.

The seat of government in the Beehive State? You can find it in communities like St. George, Clearfield and South Jordan. Those hallowed halls where the work of the people promises that our best days are yet to come are in Lehi, Ogden, Logan and Taylorsville.

As we approach the third Tuesday in January — the first day of the 66th General Session of the Utah Legislature — the Utah House Majority is hosting 12 regional town halls across the state. Our members will visit your communities to preview the body’s 2025 policy priorities and take feedback from the very Utahns who shaped them. Over the past year, we’ve heard your calls for policies to support strong families and safe communities, cut red tape and taxes, and fight to lower costs for everyday Utahns.

These town halls provide a vital forum for Utahns to speak directly with us, ensuring your concerns, ideas and hopes drive state policy.

The cornerstone of state government doesn’t reside in a building or place but with the people of Utah. In this spirit, the House Majority Caucus, now 61 members strong, met at Snow College in Ephraim last week to finalize our legislative priorities. It was a beautiful setting to collaborate and a reminder that the power lawmakers wield flows not from Capitol Hill; instead, the true center of power rests with the people of Utah — and emanates from every corner of this state.

In 2024, Utah was recognized as the No. 1 state for volunteerism, No. 1 for social mobility, No. 1 to start a business and the list goes on. The credit belongs to you, not us. Utahns make Utah the best state in the nation — not the government. Above the speaker’s dais in the House chamber, you will see the Latin phrase “Vox Populi,” meaning “Voice of the People,” a constant reminder of our responsibility to every Utahn.

So please, join us and share your voice at a town hall in your community. The 45-day General Session will be stronger because of you.
