The 52nd annual March for Life takes place Friday in Washington, D.C., and many prominent Republican leaders are expected to take part.
Vice President JD Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune are on the list of featured speakers for 2025, and organizers will share a video message from President Donald Trump.
“This is the first time Vance will address the National March for Life in Washington, D.C. He previously spoke, as a U.S. senator, at the 2023 Ohio March for Life,” Catholic News Agency reported.
The speakers' list also includes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, surfer Bethany Hamilton and well-known anti-abortion activist Lila Rose.
March for Life 2025
The March for Life rally will take place on the grounds surrounding the Washington Monument, according to The Washington Post.
The event kicks off with a pre-rally concert at 11 a.m. EST, and then the rally portion, when speakers offer comments from a stage, begins around noon.
The speeches will be livestreamed on the March for Life YouTube channel and Facebook page.
The march through D.C. will last from approximately 1 to 4 p.m.
“The march route this year will lead demonstrators along Constitution Avenue NW to Pennsylvania Avenue NW, down Third Street SW near the Capitol Reflecting Pool, then onto Independence Avenue SW past the Capitol and up First Street NE to the area between the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court,” The Washington Post reported.
The March for Life has taken place each January since 1973, when the Supreme Court expanded abortion access with its Roe v. Wade ruling, the article noted.
The march has continued even after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
Trump and the March for Life
Trump made history in 2020 when he appeared at the March for Life and shared his support for the participants, per Catholic News Agency.
He was the first president to speak in person at the event.
“The life movement is led by strong women, amazing faith leaders, and brave students who carry on the legacy of pioneers before us who fought to raise the conscience of our nation and uphold the rights of our citizens. You embrace mothers with care and compassion. You are powered by prayer, and motivated by pure, unselfish love,” Trump said in 2020.
Trump will miss the event this year because he’ll be in California to see wildfire damage.
