Much has been made of second chances, regarding the Brandon Davies situation at BYU.
Many say the university has been harsh in its treatment of the basketball player who last week was dismissed from the team for violating the honor code.
NFL quarterback Tim Tebow said: "I do always think that people definitely deserve second chances because no one is perfect and we mess up everyday."
True enough, but who says he's not getting a second chance? He has a chance to play on the team next year.
Or do they mean a second chance RIGHT NOW?
Allowing Davies to play this year would mean the honor code doesn't matter. Allowing him to play next year — if he complies with the honor code — would factor in forgiveness.
There's also the matter of whether Davies had violated the honor code previously. If that's the case, he could have already received second, third or fourth chances. I'm not insinuating he has, but the only way to know for sure would be for the university or Davies to release the details.
Don't hold your breath on that.
