Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen is on a short leash.
The university fined him a whopping $50,000 and suspended him one game for his profanity-laced tirade at Air Force coach Troy Calhoun, Oct. 13. He was also reprimanded by the Mountain West Conference.
The incident occurred after the game. Christensen apparently felt Air Force had faked an injury so play could be stopped without the Falcons calling a timeout.
Was the action taken by the university too much?
In 2007, Wyoming coach Joe Glenn made an obscene hand gesture toward Utah coach Kyle Whittingham after Utah attempted an onside kick with a 43-0 lead. Glenn was reprimanded and he issued an apology, but no suspension or fine was levied.
Im all in favor of a reprimand or maybe even suspension, but a $50,000 fine seems a bit much for a tirade.
Its not like he took a swing at Calhoun.
The one time I was in a Christensen post-game interview session, he seemed like a well-behaved guy. Utah had beaten the Cowboys 30-6, but the coach appeared composed and professional.
Whats your opinion on the fine? Was the school smashing a gnat with a hammer or was it correct in throwing the book at Christensen?
