AP PhotoTime moves on. People forget. Kids grow up.
I say that because the death of Darryl Dawkins was a big deal to me. A big deal to Frank Layden and others who saw him play.

AP PhotoI didnt start coming around the NBA until Dawkins had left Utah. But I did get a solo interview with him when he played with the Globetrotters. Hilarious. Naturally hilarious.
But I see via an online poll accompanying my column on Dawkins that the vast majority of people (72 percent when I last checked) think Charles Barkley is more entertaining. I cant argue that, because he too is one of the funniest people Ive been around. However, I figure the majority of Barkleys votes come from people who know him as a TV personality, not as a player.
At any rate, trust me, Dawkins was Barkleys equal. I only regret he didnt get a job on TV, too.
