Nancy Lieberman being hired by the Sacramento Kings as a fulltime assistant coach brought to mind an interview I did with her in 1998.

Back then, she was coaching the Detroit Shock. She impressed me then and now. She seemed honest, open and articulate, and appears the same in 2015.

Associated PressIt was classy of her this week to credit San Antonio assistant coach Becky Hammon for opening doors.

Truthfully, Lieberman has been doing that for decades. She once played in the Jazz summer league along with Mark Eaton, Danny Vranes and others.

In light of Liebermans joining the Kings, I thought Id resurrect the column, to provide an idea of what she was thinking 17 years ago. She said that it's possible even if women ever were to play in the mens NBA, it might not be a good thing. Theyre two different types of game, two different physiques.

At any rate, its nice to see shes still breaking barriers.
