SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz owned the fourth quarter and battled back from as many as 13 points down to earn an impressive 120-107 road win over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center on Saturday night.
The victory gives Utah two wins over the Clippers in their three matchups so far this season.
Here are three key takeaways that defined the game:
Donovan Mitchell and Jordan Clarkson had an overall better night than Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Mitchell scored a game-high 30 points on 56.5% shooting and added nine assists and seven rebounds, while Clarkson put up 19 points, four rebounds and two assists in his second game with Utah. Leonard scored 19 points while shooting 25% from the from field and added six assists, four rebounds and two steals, while George had 20 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
The Jazz held a slim 109-107 lead with 3:35 to play but ended the game on an 11-0 run while holding the Clippers to 20% shooting (4 of 20) in the final quarter. Los Angeles had a sizable edge from the free-throw line, making 25 of 27, while the Jazz hit 13 of 17 from the free-throw line. Utah, however, outshot the Clippers 52.3% to 36.8% from the field.
Both teams entered the game allowing opponents to shoot 34% from 3-point range. The Jazz outshot the Clippers from the 3, making 17 of 35 from deep, including six 3-pointers during a third quarter in which Utah built a 10-point lead. Los Angeles, meanwhile, made 12 of 40 from 3-point range. A 3-pointer from Bojan Bogdanovic late in the game made it 114-107.
