SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football’s annual coaches clinic is delivering quite a punch this year. The keynote speaker for the Saturday, March 28, gathering is legendary boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas.

“It’s going to be very interesting. He worked with Mike Tyson and some other guys,” said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, an acknowledged huge boxing fan back in the days of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. “He’s coming in and I’m really excited to listen to him talk.”

Altas, who provides boxing commentary for ESPN and NBC’s coverage of the Olympics, was the head trainer for heavyweight champion Michael Moorer. He’s also worked with champs and contenders Barry McGuigan, Donny Lalonde, Alexander Povetkin, Timothy Bradley and Wilfred Benitez.

Besides Atlas, clinic participants will also hear from Dr. Jonathan Ravarino on the importance of mental wellness. Other scheduled speakers include Utah defensive line coach Sione Pouha (recruiting in Utah), Gianna Colosimo (player development) and Doug Elisaia (strength and conditioning). Attendees, who will receive breakfast and lunch, will also observe Utah’s spring practice that day and be able to attend “Chalk Talk” breakout sessions with all of the coaches. An optional social at Ruby River Steakhouse concludes the session.
