PROVO — Postseason honors continue to roll in for BYU’s Yoeli Childs.

The Cougar forward was named to the Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team Tuesday.

Childs, who finished No. 6 all-time in scoring, No. 1 all-time in rebounding and No. 2 all-time in double-doubles at BYU, helped lead the Cougars to a 24-8 record and a final national ranking of No. 18.

The Cougars posted a 16-3 record with Childs in the lineup. He averaged 22.2 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 57.4% from the field and 48.9% from 3-point range.

Childs was named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team and earned first-team all-district honors from the NABC and USBWA. He was also a Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Top 5 Finalist and was ranked No. 20 among the top 50 players in college basketball by Sports Illustrated.

Childs is the first BYU player to receive Senior CLASS Award honors since Tyler Haws, who also earned second-team status in 2014-15. Jimmer Fredette won the Senior CLASS Award in 2010-11.

The Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.

Consensus First Team All-America guard Markus Howard from Marquette University was selected as the 2019-20 Senior CLASS Award winner. The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I men’s basketball coaches, national basketball media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I men’s basketball.
