SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s record-setting running back Zack Moss received two major awards Monday night at the annual Crimson Carpet Awards, capturing both the most outstanding senior male student-athlete and athlete of the year awards.
Ute gymnast Kim Tessen was named female athlete of the year, while skier Guro Jordheim received the most outstanding senior athlete award for female. Tessen also received the Wellness Advocate Award, for advocating mental health awareness among student-athletes.
Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, the award ceremony was held virtually on YouTube and Facebook with University of Utah director of athletics Mark Harlan serving as the emcee of the event. Nominations were submitted by Utah coaches and the winner of each award was chosen by Utah’s student-athletes.
The swim & dive team won the Most Inspirational Team Award, while the women’s tennis team was honored for the Team Community Service Award.
Other awards given out Monday included:
Rookie of the year: Abby Paulson, gymnastics and basketball’s Rylan Jones.
Ute Proud Most Inspirational Award; Claire Feldman, softball and Leki Fotu, football.
Dr. Chris Hill Leadership Award: Missy Reinstadtler, gymnastics and Brody Lewis, swim & dive.
John Crawford Community Service Award: SJ Edwards, women’s soccer. Bud Jack Scholar-Athlete Award: Christina Pick, swim & dive.
Dr. Burtis Evans Scholar-Athlete Award: Matteo Sogne, swim & dive.
