The Utah Warriors were rather busy during the first-ever Major League Rugby draft on Saturday.

The Warriors made four of the 24 selections even though there are 12 teams in the league. With the third overall pick, the Warriors chose Derek Ellingson from Saint Mary’s College in California. Then with the seventh pick, the Warriors took John Powers from Iona College in New York.

With the 15th pick, Utah chose Danny Giannascoli out of Loyola University in Maryland, and with the 19th pick the Warriors took Elijah Hayes from Iowa Central Community College.

Conner Mooneyham, who played for Life University in Georgia and is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was taken first overall by the Dallas Jackals.

The league’s 2020 season was canceled in March because of the coronavirus pandemic after the Warriors had played five of what was supposed to be a 16-game season.
